Statistics

Danish Agency for Universities and Internationalisation (previously The Danish Agency for International Education) issues around 2,000 assessments per year, in addition to contributing a large number of assessments in connection with the Danish greencard scheme.

Assessment of foreign qualifications

The Agency issued 1,953 ordinary assessment reports in 2010, approximately the same as the year before.

While qualifications at all levels are assessed, 81 % of the assessments indicate a level within higher education.

The average case processing time for an ordinary assessment in 2010 was 32,5 days, the same as the year before.

In addition to ordinary assessments, the agency provided 5,455 assessments for the Immigration Service in connection with the Danish greencard scheme. In most of these cases, the qualification holders were from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh or Nepal.

In addition to assessments, the agency provides a wide range of information and advice. For example, in 2010, the agency gave advice in response to 461 enquiries from institutions of higher education about foreign entrance examinations, and 83 % of these replies were given on the same day.

Credit transfer appeals

In 2010, the Qualifications Board (Kvalifikationsnævnet) received 36 complaints about Danish educational institutions’ decisions on credit transfer in various contexts or recognition of prior learning in adult education. That was double the number of complaints received in 2009.

Professional recognition (regulated professions)

In the regulated professions, the number of recognition decisions decreased by 14 % to 1,907 in 2010, compared with 2,218 such decisions in 2009 (excluding merchant seamen). 79 % of the authorisation decisions were made in the field of healthcare.

Overall, 58 % of the decisions in 2010 were favourable, a slight drop on the previous year, with the number of rejected applications rising to 12 %.

The competent authorities kept the processing time under three months in most cases, i.e. around 71%, but this figure has been decreasing for the last two years.

Service providers from EU/EEA countries are entitled to practice their profession on a temporary and occasional basis in Denmark. According to the authorities, there were 271 registrations by service providers in 2010.
